Nestled just outside of Conroe in the Greater Houston area, the East Texas Elephant Experience stands as a beacon for animal lovers. It's not just any animal sanctuary; it's the only place in the entire United States where you can get up close and personal with the majestic African elephant.

Meet the Elephant Family

The heart and soul of the East Texas Elephant Experience are its three African elephants - Jeanie, Krissy, and Paige. These gentle giants were brought to the US after their parents tragically fell victim to ivory poaching. Since their arrival in the late 1990s, they've not only become a part of the family but have also played a pivotal role in educational programs across the country. They've even been instrumental in studies aimed at improving the lives of elephants in human care.

Paige: The first to join the family in 1996, Paige stands tall at over 9 feet.
Krissy: The daintiest of the trio, Krissy stands 7’ 10” tall and weighs 7,800 lbs. Unique in her own right, she was born without tusks.
Jeanie: Weighing in at 9,500 lbs., Jeanie is not just the heaviest but also the most playful, with a voracious appetite to match!

More Than Just Elephants

While the elephants are undoubtedly the stars of the show, the sanctuary is also home to several camels, a zebra named Mr. Z, and a herd of pygmy goats. Each animal, whether big or small, has its own unique personality and story to tell.

What to Expect During Your Visit

The East Texas Elephant Experience isn't just about viewing animals; it's about immersing oneself in their world. The tour, which lasts up to 1.5 hours, offers visitors a chance to:

Understand the challenges faced by African elephants in their native habitats.

Interact with the other furry residents of the sanctuary.

A Legacy of Care and Education

The East Texas Elephant Experience isn't a recent endeavor. It's the culmination of a multi-generational family's dedication to elephants in human care. For over fifty years, this family has been at the forefront of providing educational programs throughout the United States, making a difference in the way people perceive and understand these magnificent creatures.
